Originally opened in Spilimbergo in 2014 by two Master mosaicists, the studio moved to Venice two years later. It is now located in the Castello district, a few steps away from Saint Mark's Square and the Arsenale, where they make Italian mosaics by hand. Alessandra Di Gennaro and Romuald Mesdagh founded it after meeting at the Scuola Mosaicisti in Friuli, where they obtained their title. Their creations are made exclusively on commission with great care and attention to detail, using the best Murano glass and marbles selected from around the world. Each creation is treated according to the tradition of craftsmanship, in order to guarantee the highest quality. The workshop produces portraits, decorative and architectural elements, entirely made to measure.
The studio started small, operating out of a workshop where the founders conducted classes and created custom mosaic pieces. Word of mouth quickly spread about the quality and creativity of their work, attracting students and clients from various backgrounds. This growing interest allowed Artefact Mosaic Studio to expand its offerings, adding more advanced courses and workshops tailored to different skill levels.
Over the years, the studio has collaborated with various cultural institutions, participated in international art fairs, and completed numerous high-profile commissions, further establishing its reputation in the art world. Artefact Mosaic Studio continues to thrive, staying true to its roots by fostering a community of mosaic masters and enthusiasts dedicated to the timeless beauty of mosaic art.

Alessandra was born in Rome. To further develop her creative abilities, Alessandra pursued an artistic education at Rome's first historic secondary school, earned a Bachelor's degree in History and Cultural Heritage Conservation from Roma Tre University, and simultaneously discovered the mosaic in Rome, in a leading Roman workshop, which serves as a reference point for mosaic restoration. She collaborated on sketches of contemporary artists, including Sandro Sanna, for the Superintendence for Historical Heritage in Palazzo Venezia.
To complete her training, Alessandra studied at the Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli and won the Gian Domenico Facchina and Friulovest Banca prizes for the best essay on mosaic. She also participated in the specialisation course reserved for the six best students, doing some mosaic commissioned to the school.
